Without question, Rick Pitino is one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time.
But ahead of this season, the 71-year-old’s first at St. John’s University, here in New York City, Pitino was presented as far more than that: a role model.
A leader of men.
Which was curious. Because I first started exploring the story of Rick Pitino in 2009, when he ruled the University of Louisville but wound up at the center of one of the strangest scandals I’d ever seen.
And the scandals, from the Adidas bribery scandal to so-called Strippergate, kept coming. As Pitino himself bounced from Greece, to Iona University, and then all the way to St. John’s. A proudly Catholic school which is getting ready, this week, to play in the Big East Tournament. With March Madness right on the horizon.
So today, after 15 years of me being obsessed with the story of Rick Pitino, you’ll hear what happens when PTFO correspondent Tim Rohan — an ace investigative reporter, formerly of Sports Illustrated and The New York Times — dives into this rabbit hole with us.
We didn’t expect to find multiple federal agents, a bizarre letter, and some weird late-night phone calls.
Or the Clinton Foundation.
Or Donald Trump.
But we did.
Enjoy.
DKN/YOUTUBE SPOILER ALERT:
Finally,
