We’ve been waiting for X-Men ‘97 for almost 30 years.
That’s how long ago the last episode of X-Men: The Animated Series — my favorite show, once upon a time — aired on television. Leaving my childhood hanging in the balance.
Brief recap here, for the kids who grew up not relating to mutants: X-Men was my favorite comic book series, a hugely popular franchise about superheroes that inspired the aforementioned cartoon and then a whole bunch of live-action movies which are, importantly, not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU then became the highest-grossing film franchise of all-time… but without any X-Men projects.
Until now. (Thanks to this multiverse shit.)
And so this is a conversation between me and two similarly obsessed friends of mine, Mina Kimes and David Dennis Jr., who’ve also been hungering to finally find out what this show would be like. And how horny it was gonna be.
