The sad reality of my schedule these days is that it’s been hard to devour television the way I used to.
Which means that I hadn’t watched Season 2 of Nathan Fielder’s The Rehearsal until my old friend Mina Kimes told me that she was brimming with thoughts about it.
I’m extremely glad that she did.
In our former lives, Mina and I spent years studying the art of the magazine profile. Which, to me, means interviewing and access and big ideas and breadcrumbs and, always, structure.
One of the concepts I still find myself preaching to the PTFO staff, well past the point of self-parody, is “reverse engineer.”
Inhaling all six episodes of The Rehearsal made me think twice about how to do my job as a journalist/docu-style podcaster/storyteller/breadcrumb-dropper.
And about the disturbingly thin line between fact and fiction.
YOUTUBE SPOILER ALERT:
