I think it’s more about the meta deception and snake oil salesmanship of it all. It’s one thing to be an entertainer and quality magician/mentalist (look up Darren Brown for example) - and another to sell to others that you have supernatural powers to change your life if you only listen to his shotty advice and buy his book!
