This is the story of an athlete that Donald Trump doesn’t want you to know about.
He was a professional goalkeeper and youth soccer coach in Venezuela with no criminal record.
He legally sought refuge in the United States upon entry — having previously been arrested, suffocated, and electrocuted for protesting the regime of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.
He never left the detention center, in America, where he was waiting for his asylum status to be processed.
But one day the Trump administration disappeared this goalkeeper into CECOT: a different dictator’s terrorist prison in El Salvador.
Because of a soccer tattoo.
Today, with the help of new PTFO correspondent Paola Ramos, we report the real story of Jerce Reyes Barrios.
We retrace his journey to America. We reach the Department of Homeland Security. And we meet his family — which has not seen or heard from Jerce since March.
YOUTUBE SPOILER ALERT:
Sincerely,
Pablo
This is a heart wrenching episode. You feel left in despair - Helpless, and hopeless for the future of these “disappeared” individuals. The thought that Our Country is forgoing unalienable rights, which are to be afforded to every Person in the Country. It’s just beyond comprehension, that so many are kowtowing to 47 and his backwards / outdated agenda. Americans need to stand up, speak out and make some changes during the mid-terms – We have to have change in Congress - we can’t continue like this with no checks for another 1350 +/- days
Paola and Pablo, Thank you for bringing Jerce's story to us. I am so horrified and angry about what has happened to Jerce and the others under this Trump regime. I pray these men get their due process and democracy wins out in the United States. I so want Trump and his cronies held responsible for these human rights abuses. Trump has overstepped his "official acts" as a POTUS!
