Before we proceed any further here, I should clarify that the title of this episode does not refer to Bill Belichick. (More on that later.)
This episode’s grandpa in question is New Jersey’s own Kim Soriano.
Also known as the 86-year-old who appeared in a viral video that has been shared and viewed well over a million times now, across TikTok and Instagram and other platforms.
But what caught my attention, when Kim agreed to visit the PTFO studio, was the binder he brought with him. Because what Kim’s grandson Matt told us is that his grandpa has not only been playing MLB: The Show — the preeminent baseball video game — for more than two decades.
Kim has also been scoring each of the 162 games (minimum!) he’s been playing, as the Yankees, in lockstep with every single season, logging the unfolding details of every virtual game, by hand… as if they’re real.
Yes, the Internet’s favorite sports grandpa has been merging a beloved analog ritual — which Boog Sciambi, The Show’s play-by-play guy, still performs for every game he calls, in real life — with the video game world.
Which does make me feel a little guilty about what I’m about to do here.
And how we’re going to pull it off.
And why I’ve summoned our good friend Boog back in studio.
YOUTUBE SPOILER ALERT:
On his horse,
